Abstract

This study was motivated by the low ability of students' understanding of mathematical concepts. The purpose of this study was to determine whether students' concept understanding ability after is better than before using the RME approach based on confident character. This type of research is quantitative research using Pre-experimental design. The subjects of this research were ninth grade students of SMP Negeri 38 Padang. Hypothesis testing was carried out with non-parametric tests, namely the Wilcoxon test because the data was not normally distributed. Based on the results of the analysis obtained analysis  = 29 and = 126 this means H0 is rejected so that H1 is accepted meaning that the ability to understand the concept of students after better than before using the RME approach based on confident character.
