This research is motivated by the problems that the researchers encountered in class I UPTD SD Negeri 05 Kubang including the students' early reading ability is still low, the facilities used do not support the learning process, the methods, models, strategies used by the teacher are less varied. The purpose of this study was to describe how far the improvement in students' reading skills by applying the SAS method to class I UPTD SD Negeri 05 Kubang students in the 2019/2020 school year. The type of research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research subjects were 11 students of class I UPTD SD Negeri 05 Kubang. The subject of this research was chosen because the researcher was a first-grade teacher at UPTD SD Negeri 05 Kubang. The instruments used are teacher activity observation sheets, student activity observation sheets, and initial reading ability tests. Based on the data analysis in the first cycle, the percentage of students' basic reading ability in the classical cycle was 72.7% and in the second cycle, it was 97.7%. Based on the data analysis that has been carried out, it can be concluded that there was an increase in students' reading ability by applying the SAS method to class I students of UPTD SD Negeri 05 Kubang for the 2019/2020 school year.
