TEACHER TALK: AN ANALYSIS OF CLASSROOM INTERACTION ON ENGLISH LEARNING IN JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

This research aimed to find out the categories of teacher talk that used by English teachers during the classroom interaction. This research used qualitative method which got from eight grade students in SMPN 6 Kota Solok which consisted of 5 classes. They were selected as the population of the research. There were class VIII.3 which consisted of 30 students selected as the sampling of the research through applying purposive sampling. The data were collected through observations and recordings of classroom sessions which included the students as the participants. The findings reveal that effective teacher talk significantly enhances student comprehension, motivation, and participation. Clear and structured explanations, coupled with relevant examples, were shown to improve students' understanding of complex concepts, while constructive feedback fostered a positive learning environment and encouraged academic growth. The study also highlights the importance of consistent and effective application of teacher talk strategies to maximize educational benefits. The research concludes that refining communication techniques and engaging in ongoing professional development are essential for teachers to optimize their instructional methods, ultimately leading to improved learning experiences and outcomes for students.
